Normalise the level

To a target peak or a target loudness, which are different numbers, with headroom left for the encoder.

It runs entirely in this browser tab: the file you open is never uploaded, nothing here listens to a microphone, and every result is a file rather than something that plays.

Settings

By
A peak says how close to clipping; a loudness says how loud. Choices: Peak, Loudness.
Target
In decibels below full scale. A number from -30 to 0.
Leave headroom
A lossy encoder can peak above its input, so a file at exactly full scale clips on playback.
Bit depth
Sixteen is the compact disc; float is what a mixing desk hands over. Choices: 8, 16, 24, 32 (float).

Questions

Is my recording uploaded anywhere?
No. The whole application is carried as WebAssembly and runs on your own device. There is no server to send anything to, and none of these tools makes a network request while it works.
Why does nothing play?
Because a player would be a second application. Every result is a file to open in whatever you already listen with, and saying so is more honest than drawing a play button that does nothing.
Does the tuner or the metronome use my microphone?
No, and the browser will never ask for one: there is no code here that could use it. The tuner reads a file you open, the tempo tool reads times you type, and the metronome writes a click track.
Which formats can it open?
WAV is read and written whole. MP3, FLAC, Ogg, AAC and AIFF are recognised and described from their headers — the format, the rate, the channels, the length — but their audio is not decoded, and a tool that needs samples says so by name.

Finds the quiet stretches and shortens them, keeping enough of each that two words do not run together.

Two different things people ask for as one: playing faster raises the pitch, and resampling does not.
