Split the channels
Mono, one side, swapped or panned, with a word about what summing cancels.
It runs entirely in this browser tab: the file you open is never uploaded, nothing here listens to a microphone, and every result is a file rather than something that plays.
Settings
- Layout
- Summing to mono cancels whatever was out of phase. Choices: Mono, Stereo, Left in both, Right in both, Swapped, The side only.
- Pan
- Equal power, so a centred sound is as loud as one hard over. A number from -100 to 100.
- Bit depth
- Sixteen is the compact disc; float is what a mixing desk hands over. Choices: 8, 16, 24, 32 (float).
How to use it
- Paste your text into the box above, or open a file.
- Adjust the settings beside it until the result is what you wanted.
- Copy the result, or save it as a file. The result updates as you type.
Questions
- Is my recording uploaded anywhere?
- No. The whole application is carried as WebAssembly and runs on your own device. There is no server to send anything to, and none of these tools makes a network request while it works.
- Why does nothing play?
- Because a player would be a second application. Every result is a file to open in whatever you already listen with, and saying so is more honest than drawing a play button that does nothing.
- Does the tuner or the metronome use my microphone?
- No, and the browser will never ask for one: there is no code here that could use it. The tuner reads a file you open, the tempo tool reads times you type, and the metronome writes a click track.
- Which formats can it open?
- WAV is read and written whole. MP3, FLAC, Ogg, AAC and AIFF are recognised and described from their headers — the format, the rate, the channels, the length — but their audio is not decoded, and a tool that needs samples says so by name.
Other tools for change a recording
Reverse audio
Backwards, whole or in part, and the only operation here that loses nothing at all.
Fade in and out
A fade at each end, with the curve that keeps a crossfade even rather than the one that dips.
Normalise the level
To a target peak or a target loudness, which are different numbers, with headroom left for the encoder.
Remove the silence
Finds the quiet stretches and shortens them, keeping enough of each that two words do not run together.
Speed and sample rate
Two different things people ask for as one: playing faster raises the pitch, and resampling does not.
